Freedom Roller Rink is a small family owned business that intends to Honor God in all that we do and offers a family friendly environment that helps the community provide safe and fun activities for the children and adults of Monmouth and surrounding areas.
The roller rink has been in existence on N. 11th Street (Monmouth, IL.) since 1940 and has been operated by various owners through the years. The roller rink started as a wood floor covered by a tent like canopy until the canopy was destroyed in the late 40’s. The wood floor then traveled around the surrounding counties and set up in various places as permitted to keep the fun of skating going. Around 1954 The floor was placed into storage until a permanent building was erected in May 1956. The new building was built with liftable sides and the original wood floor was re-laid and the business re-opened. The roller rink has gone through many changes and updates to include name changes. In 1967 new construction started to add bathrooms and the second floor apartment. In 1970 the hinged sides of the rink were covered with siding and the inside walls were paneled. In the 1980 issue of “Roller Skating business” the rink was recognized for having the second oldest maple floor still used by a skating rink. We are pleased to announce that the original floor is still being used today. Thomas and Karen Sparkman acquired Freedom Roller Rink in May 2013. We continue to make changes to the rink which include a party room section, new carpet, updated sound system, and new skates. In the latter part of 2016 we completed the new snack bar area. The rink offers public skating and is also available for private parties. We provide skate rental as well as the sale of skates and skating accessories. We did not set out to purchase a skating rink but have been truly blessed by the experience. We would like to “Thank” our families, our children, our friends and the community for helping us achieve this blessing.
Roller Skating is a great form of exercise that kids of all ages can enjoy. Skating is an easy-to-do sport that can be learned at your own pace. It develops character, promotes fitness, fosters lifetime recreational habits and instills in individuals a sense of pride and confidence. Roller Skating is fun, challenging, interactive and rewarding.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has found Roller Skating is twice as safe as playgrounds, and three times safer than basketball or football. In addition, roller skating centers offer safe, drug-free, alcohol-free and smoke-free fun in a clean, wholesome supervised environment
